Faith After Doubt by Brian McLaren will be the focus of this book group led by Richard Davenport. The book’s sub-title is “Why your beliefs stopped working and what to do about it.” Doubts may occur about one’s religion, politics, relationships, career, and a host of other endeavors. Change, and the lack of it, can provoke doubts. A leading 20th Century theologian (Frederick Buechner) wrote “Doubts are the ants in the pants of faith. They keep it awake and moving.” This book offers fresh insight into how we may creatively reflect on our doubts, and how faith development often demands doubts about the status quo in order for us to grow.
Assignment: An opening assignment is to get a copy of Brian’s McLaren’s Faith after Doubt, and to read the Afterword and ponder Appendix 1 (both at the end of the book) before coming to the first meeting.
