When I moved to St. Louis in January 2024, I asked a friend about the Christian Science churches in the area. I was looking for two equally important things: a church that was grappling with the misogyny in the Bible and Christianity, and one that welcomed me (with that caveat) and my dog, Roscoe, to their services.
Coming from Alaska, I had been taking my dogs to church for over a decade. They served as Ambassadors of love, “Third Readers” (as I was elected several times as 2nd reader and they would quietly support the service at my feet), ushers, and general welcoming and fun/fellowship committee members. Roscoe had been attending church with me in Wasilla, AK since he was 4 months old…and loved his church family very much. I was hoping to find a new home church in St. Louis that would welcome us.
My research brought me to the Brentwood Christian Science Church. Here, I have found a true commitment to welcome everyone in their congregation with openhearted joy and fellowship…even the furry congregants! Roscoe looks forward to seeing his new church family each week, and so do I! The unique intimate touches that this church goes out of its way to provide and the nurturing of connection with God and Her children are very special to me. I really feel embraced by this congregation…and Roscoe does too! I am so grateful for the Brentwood Christian Science Church!
